y’all know the Great American Novel has put out their new album but we’ve done enough talking about their music. Lets give some love to the artist who did the brilliant cover! -Alex

The Great American Novel make just the right kind of loud, pop-driven rock ‘n’ roll that easily inspires equally brazen artwork… So when the boys asked me to do the cover for their new record, I had a few ideas pretty immediately.

I sent them rough sketches of three of these ideas, intending for them to pick a final design for me to move forward with… But this seemed to just confuse them, more than anything. These are the two images that they had the most difficulty deciding from - So I went ahead and completed final versions of both as they were still bickering. The first image - of the gentleman in the glasses - is the design they ultimately decided on, and also, funny enough, the first concept I came up with. But I put a lot of work into both, so I’m posting the two of them, here, together.

Apparently there’s some debate as to who the guy on the cover is - some saying Buddy Holly and others (more reasonably) GAN frontman Layne Montgomery. Anyone who knows anything about my artistic process, however, knows that I use primarily photos of myself as reference… So, yes, I put myself on the cover of someone else’s record. And have apparently gotten away with it.
